While it may not seem practical to place items in front of the TV to block it (after all it is meant to be seen at least some of the time) keep in mind that the TV doesn’t necessarily need to be hidden from all angles. A chair placed between you and the TV will hide it (at least partially) when people are traversing the hallways and passing by so the screen is at least hidden when you aren’t plopped down on the sofa. Note that pushing a TV into the back of a deep bookshelf will similarly minimize it from many angles making this technique doubly effective.

Keep the screen hidden too. It’s not only the projector that can be concealed but the screen itself. With a motorized projector lift some ceiling-integrated speakers and a drop-down projector screen the transition from living room to home cinema can be as smooth as it is impressive. The space freed up while the screen isn’t in use can be used to display artwork or any other more aesthetically pleasing pieces.

Your ottoman should complement the look of your room. If the room is more classic and old fashioned than a wooden ottoman will fit perfectly well. It's also available in lacquer finish or if you want to make a statement no one can go wrong with an elegant leather ottoman. For chic homeowners with a budget faux leather beds work just as fine and will still give you the comfort and flexibility of ottomans.

The ottoman as a footrest. Many people love to stretch their legs out when sitting. Whether they are reading a book watching TV or simply resting or napping people like to elevate their feet and legs. The biological effect is to reduce the stress on the heart in pumping blood up through the non-return valves in the veins of their legs by keeping your legs raised your heart has less work to do and you consequently use less energy so can relax easier. The padded top of an ottoman permit you to do this comfortably and many use this type of furniture with their recliner rather than use the footrest that comes with the furniture.

A round ottoman is great for a sectional with a wedge or rounded corners. With no corners it is easy to get around.

Let it spin. Metal chimney technology also allows the fireplace to be a floating object unconnected to the ground. The Fireorb by architect Doug Garofalo takes the prefab metal fireplace to a whole new level. Allowing a 360-degree rotation this is a fireplace that can be placed anywhere in a space — it's like something out of The Jetsons.
